Our Story

Established in 2013, Amity Coffee Roasters was built on a single premise: connect great people with great coffee. Simple as that.

It all began in 2012, when founder and Delaware native Marty Miller received his first-ever coffee roaster as a Christmas gift from his wife. After dabbling in small-scale hot-air roasters, he soon graduated to barbecue grills and custom-made roasters.

What began as a hobby quickly grew into an outright obsession for coffee and the roasting experience. Utilizing resources from his family-owned metal-cutting and fabrication business, Marty joined forces with a designer and engineer to develop a sample roaster with unique control technology.

In 2013, Marty teamed up with longtime friend, Justin, and his wife, Lisa, who were instrumental in building the brand and giving Amity Coffee its name.

After countless hours of dreaming, researching, and training together, they started selling Amity Coffee by the bag at farmers markets, on their website, and to their friends.

In 2014, Marie Miller married Marty’s brother, Dave, and moved to Delaware. Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Marie had the opportunity to live in Australia after graduating from college and that was when she truly fell in love with coffee.

After returning to the United States, she worked as a barista at an Annapolis, Maryland, bakery, with the dream of opening her own cafe one day. After  relocating to Delaware, Marie joined the team and spearheaded the efforts to establish a storefront for Amity Coffee.

With just a roaster and a starter espresso machine, Amity Coffee officially opened its cafe doors at its current Greenwood, Delaware, location in January 2015. By early summer of that year, they started selling their made-from-scratch baked goods in conjunction with their freshly-brewed coffee, formally establishing themselves as a cornerstone of Greenwood and the surrounding community.

With a passion for bean, blend, brew, and everything in between, Amity Coffee Roasters & Cafe remains as meticulous about the process as they are the product, knowing that, when roasted to perfection, customers will experience the very best brew--and that is the ultimate goal.
